I've lost my "perk" today. Having one of those "down" mornings with no real explanation as to why...I hate when that happens! Hoping I can journal myself out of it...
I got my office cleaned before Mike got home...good thing. I ate 3-50 calorie fudge bars while he was gone...not on my diet plan...not a good thing. Mike has lots of new funny stories from the golf trip....good thing. I ate some cheese while he was gone.....not a good thing. The Cavs won last night with an awesome last second shot by Lebron....good thing. I did not sleep well last night....not a good thing.
Well that didn't work! I think the lack of sleep and the guilt over my diet "ut ohs" might combine to be the key to my missing perkiness! I know the cheese and fudge bars were not terrible and they were really a nice change. I didn't "pig out!" Nothing to feel guilty over!
I think I'm tired. I just finished my first cup of coffee. Hopefully that will help with the energy level!
The re-do of my little Pre-K graduation video is AWESOME and perfect! Can't wait to show it to all the parents!
It was wonderful having Valerie on furlough this week. She called me every day...usually 2 -5 times! I know she had an incredibly busy week with the kids and is happy to have Matt home to help. They are great parents! The granddaughters are already in their swimsuits waiting on the pool to open today! I remember opening day at the pool! Exciting!
The weather this year has been wonderful! I can remember many Memorial days that were cold and rainy!
I feel a tiny bit of "perk" returning....
Today's devotion:
"I am the Lord your God...and I have put my words in your mouth and hidden you safely in my hand." Isaiah 51:15-16
Marilyn Meberg says: "Whether they surface frequently or rarely, we all have strong feelings that impact us, causing tears to spring up unexpectedly, sending grief sweeping over us "out of nowhere," or pushing us to behave in specific ways. By studying these feelings and by remembering back to the events and issues that sparked them, we gain understanding that helps us cope."
".......we are hidden safely in God's hand because that's where he chooses for us to be, and that's where we WILL be forever be."
I needed reminded of that today!
I'm thankful for my memories of those who have gone before me.
Have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!

Morning blog has been postponed until later...
I wanted to get just one big project done before Mike got back from his golf trip....clean out my office/storage area. At the moment, I am knee deep in construction paper, glue bottles, crayons, marker, beads, sequins, books...all in piles in my living room. Honestly, I don't know how it gets this way 3 times a year!!!
I will try to blog later......
Happy Friday!!!

Commentary
I went to Andrew's Tennis banquet last night. It was his first banquet and he was very excited about it. In fact, he is VERY EXCITED about this sport. I do not ever remember him being this passionate about anything, with the exception of my homemade sugar cookies and chocolate buckeyes.
This team won their league and went undefeated for the first time. There are talented, nice young men and women on the team who received well deserved praise from the coach. On the otherhand, the reserve players received no encouragement or words of wisdom.
I left feeling very disappointed. There are not so many players that time didn't allow some type of positive feedback for every team member.
I guess we got spoiled with Chad and Val who had wonderful high school coaches. In particular, Tom Denton, their cross country coach, would stay at that finish line to meet and encourage every runner that came across no matter if they were first or last. He made every member of that team feel important and valuable. We couldn't wait until his year end banquet where he made us laugh and gave words of praise and encouragement to each team member It made a difference in their lives! We were privileged to have this coach for 5 years and I would dare to say that he will never be forgotten. Fred Graham another awesome coach! We were blessed!
Coaches....Please take time to acknowledge every member of your team. They have chosen to be a part of your sport, their families have sacrificed and supported just the same as everyone else. Just a few words of encouragement and congratulations could make the biggest difference in their young lives!
Okay....I will step down from my soap box now.
I was very proud of Andrew and happy with this new found love of tennis! He is excited to attend tennis camps this summer and is giving himself fully to the sport. It exhausts me to watch him play!
Thrilled with the new American Idol! I missed watching it with Mike. Chad called and thought I would be upset about Adam losing and was a bit surprised that I wasn't an Adam fan! He was too rocker for me. I LOVED Kris's performance with Keith Urbin last night!! Actually the entire show was really good. I look forward to watching it again with Mike!
Feeling a little tired this morning!
What the heck happened to the Cavs last night!!?? I was checking on it off and on during Idol and we were something like 17 points ahead then I went back and we were 5 points ahead then 2 points in 3rd quarter! I fell asleep. Woke up in the middle of the night and sports news was on and said Cavs lost! Opening game in CLEVELAND and we lost!? I haven't had time to watch anything this morning...still a bit shocked! Maybe they went into the series too confident!
Kids did awesome at graduation practice yesterday! Did I already tell you about that? I can't remember! I will check before repeating it all again!
Today's devotion:
"Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith." Hebrews 12:1-2
Comments from Sheila Walsh.....
"I believe that phrase means that we study how Jesus lived, how he loved, and follow his example. When we find ourselves in a difficult place, we do what he did; we turn to our Father."
"Faith is not wishful thinking or theatrics. Faith is born in us as we fix our eyes on Jesus and as we recognize the fingerprints of God the Father all over our lives!" (a Grand New Day Daily Devotional)
Have a great Thursday!

Golf Widow...
Mike left with 19 of his closest and craziest family and friends to golf at Pipestem, West Virginia for 3 days. It's a beautiful state park located just past the last WV toll and fairly close to the WV/VA border. He brings home incredible pictures and even more incredible stories of this annual golf trip. They actually take a tram 1100 feet down to their lodge/hotel! We hope to take a weekend trip this year so I can experience some of the mountain magic of the area! Son in law, Matt, says if you hit too far out of bounds on this course, your ball drops off the side of the mountain! Mike was up way too early, pacing and waiting for Pipestem rookie/nephew Todd Barcus to pick him up! They are going to have a great time!
So, I have my little guys today...we didn't get to the church yesterday to practice for our graduation ceremony at the end of the month. We opted to play outside. We are heading over today which will probably work out better...no Bible Study so we can go earlier. Then I am heading back to Coshocton for Andrew's Tennis Banquet. They went undefeated and won their league...might be the first time in school history to go undefeated. I will let you know tomorrow after the banquet.
The video I did for their graduation is precious BUT they forgot the picture of me and the boys at the end. I hope they will re-do it for me. The last few pictures are without music and I don't LOVE that but could live with it if our group picture was there. My video guy is on the golf trip so we will work it out upon his return. He is a great friend so I'm sure he will work with me. I removed a few pictures to make it work better with the music.
Madison did a BEAUTIFUL job at her piano recital. There was a big group and they were all awesome! I just love her teacher, Jan Coffman. I love Jan's entire family! She teaches 5 or 6 of her grandchildren and they were so cute! The youngest boys are also very ornery which makes it fun! Madison was all dressed up with a little "flip" in her hair and a darling hair bow. As we were getting into my car she said "Grandma, if I were older, I would wear this dress to the prom." It was a precious moment....
Grace was a little unhappy at all the attention Madison was getting. She got herself into all kinds of trouble with smart remarks. Her daddy even put her nose into the corner. Oh, our little Grace! She likes being the baby and the center of attention. She is signed up to take piano next year....It will be interesting to see if she is as committed as her sister. I just love that child and all her spunk!
Diet went great yesterday...took my talapia fish and salad to Val's to fix. Took enough for her too. She ate it and wanted to know where dessert was..silly girl! She loved the salad dressing...I do too! I'm not a big vinegar and oil lover but this was recommended on my diet plan and it's my favorite...Wish Bone Red Wine Vinaigrette (with extra virgin olive oil). Grace's little fingers kept reaching onto our plates to grab pieces of lettuce! Val is picking some up at the store today!
Today's devotion....(you will know this one!)
"God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son so that whoever believes in him may not be lost, but have eternal life. God did not send his Son into the world to judge the world guilty, but to save the world through him." John 3:16-17
Jan Silvious goes on to say....God watches us as eagles watch & care for their young and when we are big enough to leave the nest, he stirs it up, forcing us to get out and fly. But he is always ready to catch us on his strong feathers if our weak little wings should fail.
That is comforting... especially for golf widows who are on their own for a few days! It's nice to know we have big comfy wings to catch us if we start to fall!
Have a great Wednesday!

Go....part 2
Ok the boys are getting in some playstation time before they leave.
Mike just called and told me to drive carefully going to Coshocton, which I thought was so sweet...then he added "I leave for golf tomorrow and I don't any car accident to mess up my trip....JUST KIDDING!" lol It really was funny! He's a funny guy!!
So, I loved today's devotion by Nicole Johnson...she is a young dramatist..is that a word? She writes and performs wonderful and amazing skits for our Women of Faith conferences.
I could so relate to her words today.
"Have you ever trembled and told a friend something you've done terribly wrong, and then, emotionally hunched over, waited for their stone cold words of judgment to hit you? But instead you heard the flat thud of grace as their rock hit the ground."
"Throwing rocks will never make us more loving. As we clutch and throw our rocks, we reveal our pettiness and our inability to change our own lives. Only when we drop our rocks and choose to love do we become more loving."
"So the next time someone trembles in fear and tells you something you really didn't want to know, or you see your sin in someone else's life, or your loved one is braced to feel your stone cold words, you'll know what to do. Loosen your grip, and listen for the flat thud of grace as you choose love over judgment."
"The only one who has the right to throw a rock is the one w ho has never done any wrong...ever. There has been only one, and only that one can pick up the rock."
"And he did, Jesus became the Rock and took care of our wrong for all time. He still stands between our accursers and us. He still lifts our heads and sets us on the path to freedom."
Wow! That is the entire devotion story.
It's something that I really want to do in my life but it isn't always easy. It's much easier to judge and throw stones.
I'm going to keep trying to choose love over judgment. Call me on it if you see me pick up a rock!!!

On Your Mark..Get Set...GO!
Busy Tuesday.....
Working with my little Pre K class on their Graduation program. Planning to walk to the church later for practice walking in and on the microphone....expecting some laughs to happen. Kids love microphones!
Their little graduation video is done and I'm heading to Coshocton after pick up time to watch it then to Madison's piano recital.
Then back home for American Idol...hope Kris has a good night....and Dancing with the Stars finale...Melissa seemed really nervous last night, hoping for lots of Gymnastics fans to vote Shaun into first place.
Weigh in had me down a total of 11 pounds. I'm not sure but I think that is 2 pounds for week 3. I have not been good at exercising or drinking my water this week. And I have stopped journaling in my tablet....which is not good. I'm giving myself a kick in the hiney. Staying on the food plan but I need to do it all to keep the program working as it's meant to work!!
Mike is all packed and ready for his golf trip. I would bet my chocolate pudding that he doesn't sleep tonight!
Okay...today's devotion is so good that I want to read it again and just absorb the words before sharing them with you. I'll be back later.
"God's judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God." 1Thessalonians 1:5

Monday already?
That was a fast weekend!
Not much going on today. I will weigh in....later!
Mike at work today and tomorrow then leaving for his annual golf trip to Pipestem WV with son-in-law and 18 friends. Nephew, Todd Barcus, is going this year....triple trouble...Mike, Matt & Todd. It's a big 3 day testosterone trip. I have a "don't ask" policy when it comes to the Pipestem golf trip! They call it the Hillbilly Cup and have the coveted Green Jacket(bought & paid for from Goodwill) and Toilet Plunger trophy with the names of past winners written in permanent marker. I did write them a theme song to the Beverly Hillbillies music...something I started a long time ago while waiting on cancer scans in Cleveland. I found it recently while cleaning out a purse and added the last 2 verses. This is the 4th trip....they are like kids going to Disneyworld!
It's chilly here this morning....32 degrees....brrrrrrr! Beautiful sunshine to balance the cold. Maybe I'm glad I didn't get my garden and flowers planted over the weekend!
I haven't read my daily devotion yet. I will do that now. Hope it's a good one!
"We look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life is gone; a new life burgeons! Look at it!" 2Corinthians 5:15 The Message Bible
Sandi Patty tells of the church in Oklahoma City where she was born. The front walls of it were destroyed by the terrible explosion in 1995 that killed so many. Along with the wall a beautiful stained glass window was shattered. She goes on to tell how the congregation lovingly saved many of the glass pieces and today that window is back together in a totally new creation. She says this is meaningful for those people whose lives have gotten all cracked up and glued back together in a new creation! We are living out the powerful truth of the inscription in one of the windows: The Lord takes broken pieces and by His love makes us whole. Sandi Patty, A Grand New Day Daily Devotional
I love Sandi Patty! She is one of my favorite speakers at the Women of Faith conferences! Last year I sobbed (that sloppy messy, nose running cry). And her music...well...it takes my breath away...I feel like a proud family member when I hear her sing!
It's great to know that each day can be a fresh start with Christ...old life, old sins washed away!
Now that makes Mondays a little easier to face!
Have a great one....

HAPPY 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!
Blessed....with a capital B
Another "WOW" sermon from Pastor Jeff. Based on Joshua 14:6-15....growing old. It should be more like a race...you pace yourself so you have a burst of energy for the end!! Do not retire and do nothing! It was much more powerful than my little synopsis but you get the idea!
Then, we celebrated our 50 year church members today which included Mike's sisters Cookie and Donna. We missed Donna who did not attend, but were so happy to have Cookie with us. Many old friends were getting "Cookie" hugs and catching up. It was wonderful to have her there after all the praying we did during her serious pancreas surgery in January. She is another example of answered prayer. Cookie actually took a minute to personally thank everyone in the church for all the cards, notes and prayers. It was emotional.
Mike is so proud of his sisters(I love them too) and we really had hoped to have them all there together. You know how much we love good photo opportunities!! We got some good ones of the current and past 50 year members...I will post as soon as I can!
Then....we went downstairs for the POTLUCK! Is there anything better than a church potluck? Oh my that food was wonderful and there were lilacs in the middle of the food table that were so fragrant...mmmmm, I can still smell them. I miss having a lilac bush. So, DIET and POTLUCK are 2 words that usually don't go together but I survived. I had a piece of ham, green beans and broccoli...Yum! Those no bake cookies were SCREAMING at me but I resisted! It helped to have so many people talking and visiting during the meal! Patting myself on my back...
It was such a busy morning that I forgot to weigh in! I will do it tomorrow morning.
Grandson, Andrew, is working his first day at ACE Hardware and reports are that he is doing a FANTASTIC job. Lots of carry outs....big ones like bags of mulch! He is wearing a 2 way radio so they call him when he is needed. Co-workers said he is going to be one tired teenager when he gets home. I don't think he even took a lunch break! His dad is so proud that he got a bit emotional. Don't you just love those moments! Sometimes they are rare with teenagers!
Mike and I have talked ourselves out of Wal Mart today...hanging at home! Still didn't get our garden plants and the only flowers I have are the lilies that come up every year on their own and the beautiful plant that one of my daycare families brought me...Thank you Kings! Honestly...we need just one more weekend day to get everything done!
It's been a great weekend though! I love the little chill in the air today...my kind of weather!
Today's devotion...
"You were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's" 1Corinthians 6:20
...put on your running shoes and honor God every day in your body. (Sheila Walsh...A Grand New Day Daily Devotion)
Oh my this one was about DIETING and the terrible cycles and the waste of money. Decide to honor God in your body! Well, I wish I had figured that out 40 years ago! Don't you just love it when your Bible readings, daily devotions, Bible studies hit you right between the eyes!
Bullseye!

Bullseye!

Yesterday & Today
(Graduaton Day for niece, Tayler!)YESTERDAY....
I got up late yesterday and had to be at Lincoln Elementary at 8 for COSI orientation...no time to blog and just a minute to let facebook friends know where I was for the day. Had a great time working COSI...result of begging from event coordinator / daughter, Valerie, who desperately needed volunteers! Program was from Ohio Department of Natural Resourses and was about wildlife/habitats. It was very informative.
I was assigned the "Banding" and "Knotting" section with Valerie & Jenny (Matt even came over from work and helped for a couple of hours.) I loved telling the kids about how polution and littering affects our wildlife and to demonstrate an animal getting KNOTTED in 6 pack plastic connectors we placed a rubber band on the student's small finger, over the top of the hand and onto the thumb. The kids had to try to get it off using only their "wing!" We discussed calling 1-800-WILDLIFE if you see an animal in distress and, bottom line, no littering!
The children moved over to Jenny & Val where they chose an animal to be. They were "banded" with an orange wrist band to simulate actual animal banding...then info was taken..animal type, band number, age, Male/Female, height, habitat (all recorded on a record sheet) ...then we set them FREE! Wild animals should never be kept as pets and banding helps control animal species...we don't want animal breeds to become extinct!
There was fishing, animal furs, snake info, skulls & animal poo, antler/horns, insects & microscopes and bird watching! Our Event Program leader was a young woman whose name was "Kat." She was awesome and very enthusiastic! Highly recommend this program and be sure to volunteer if you are asked. It was fun!
Came home with plenty of time to do things...but took a nap, fixed dinner and watched Hallmark movies!
Diet went very well! I drank my hot cocoa on the way to COSI, had a replacement bar, went to Val and had soup for lunch, had a replacement shake on the way home and fixed turkey burgers for dinner!
Mike has been on regular food this week...1000-1200 caleries a day. He's lost 2 more pounds...I weighed yesterday and had lost 1 more...will officially weigh in tomorrow morning.
I LOVED yesterday's devotion and I really want to share the whole thing but I will try to summarize:
"These God-chosen lives all around....what splendid friends they make!" Psalm 16:3
Have gratitude and thankfulness for friends! Celebrate birthdays, victories, answered prayers and accomplishments...savor them! Celebrating friends makes you a more contented person, puts a spring in your step, a smile on your face and your heart lighter. They can be 500 miles away, yet something they say will cause you to laugh out loud!
You have more joy in your life because of them...more joy in your marriage & family. Friendship fills a deep well within us with fresh water. When we celebrate friendships, it's like dropping a huge rock into the well. It splashes that water everywhere, on everyone else in your life!
(Nicole Johnson, A Grand New Day Daily Devotional)
Wow! Celebrate friendships today!
SATURDAY (today)
Today my niece, Tayler Lewis, graduates with honors from Kent State University! She has already begun her graduate classes in speech pathology and is one of their top students! She was the first thought I had when my eyes opened this morning.
I remember the excitement when she was born! So cute with RED hair...just what all the Grandma's had wanted...answered prayer...a redhead!! Ida was a wonderful Mommy...so full of love for her little girl. Tayler was so precious to her daddy that he did not really want to share her with any of us...like a dog protecting his puppy! GRRRRR! When we WERE permitted to hold his little pup, we were directed to the sink to wash our hands first. He was quite the protective daddy.
She has brought us all pride and joy and it continues to this day...
CONGRATULATIONS TAYLER!

No huge plans today....Mike is at the bank then checking out the ballpark for little league games. Picking up more white paint later to do a 2nd coat on the sun porch. I think we might go with Miller family to look at campers (for them not us). Camper is replacing swimming pool at the moment!
Thinking about steak and chicken kabobs for dinner with onions, mushrooms and red peppers. Hope the rain stays away!
Oh...Mike told me Three Dog Night is coming to our local Midland Theater in Newark. So I got on the website and they are coming..... in March 2010! Tickets go on sale June 16th and he is over the top excited! They were his You Tube early morning concert! I must say, I DO think it will be a fun concert! "Jeremiah Was A Bullfrog...was a good friend of mine..." We will be singing and listening to Three Dog Night songs for 10 months!!
So, while on the theater website I saw a group called "4 Bitchin' Babes!" That shouted GIRLS NIGHT OUT to me! Their tour is called "Hormonal Imbalance!" I think we are doing a family girls night out with Mom, me, Val, Ida, Tay and I have to check with Robin and her girls. The "Babes" are coming in January.
Midland Theater has some great programs on their schedule. David Cook will be there soon and Mike said his show sold out in 8 minutes. It isn't a big theater. When I was young, my dance recitals were held there. Mike and I went to many, many movies there during our dating years. It closed down and was crumbling when Dave Longaberger came along and refurbished this wonderful little theater!
I had not kept up with it...shame on me! It's a small town treasure! Check it out! Maybe we will see you at one of their shows!
Today's devotion...
"A generous person will be enriched." Proverbs 11:25
Generosity and kindness aren't meant to be held in reserve for big storms or hard times. Generous living is an art to be practiced! A note of encouragement, a basket of muffins, a flower, a surprise phone call, a kind word, providing a meal for a family whose mother is sick, volunteering to care for a friend's children while she gets groceries, visiting someone confined or in assisted living. These are things that require only your time, energy and the willingness to be involved in someone else's life. (Jan Silvious, A Grand New Day Daily Devotional)
Generosity is so easy...start with a smile for someone today!
"Joy to the World...All the Boys & Girls now...Joy to the fishs in the deep blue sea...Joy to you and me!" (Three Dog Night)

Painful Goodbye.....Danny is gone!
American Idol fans let my guy down last night...Danny has gone home! I've made no secret of my non love for Adam...he is good...too good. He will have no problem making it on his own without all the American Idol benefits. I was supporting the average "Joes"...Kris and Danny. I loved Danny's story...his wife dying 4 weeks before the auditions! And honestly, I never really noticed Kris too much...he sorta grew on me as the weeks progressed....but Danny has always been my number 1. I guess my life will go on...without Danny.
My little Pre-Kindergarten class of 5 boys rocked the Kindergarten tests yesterday! I am so proud of those little guys! My last mommy emailed me and said they were the last of my group to test and the teachers were singing my boys' praises...in fact...they took their names so as not to put them all in the same class in the Fall....they knew too much and would be bored!! You could get 23 points and my group scored from 18/23, 21/23 to 23/23! I am bursting this morning...helping to get me through the emotional Danny dumping last night!
Hoping the storms won't be too bad this morning and always praying we don't lose power.
My new batch of Take Shape For Life food was delivered yesterday. Honestly, it felt like one of those life saving supply drops in a big crate from an airplane to people in need! I almost cried! I have been pretty much down to only drinks this week and that wasn't really satisfying my need for "crunch!" My mind was starting to wander to thoughts of Big Mac's, Taco Bell, KFC (those tv commercials were killing me)cakes and cookies. I was about to pull out my Cup of Soup (with way too much sodium) when I heard the big clunk on the front porch. My heart started singing "Halleluiah...Halleluiah..Halle...Luiah!"
The program sends you a month at a time but Mike did the first 2 weeks with me thus using 4 weeks of food in 2 weeks but I had received a week of free food which was helping but the only food with any texture was the oatmeal and I was down to one pack when my diet saving delivery was made! It was so exciting to unpack that food! I had Chicken & Rice soup for lunch and I moaned with delight at every bite! I had foo fooed the soy chips when I placed my first order but decided to give them a try....they are DEEEEEE-LICIOUS! It was a glorious diet day...my favorite, orange roughy fish for dinner with a salad of cucumbers, half a roma tomato and mushrooms. I was done for the night. A piece of Extra strawberry banana gum during Idol.
Mike had the same dinner but I also fixed him some sugar free cheesecake pudding with skim milk. I crumbled a half graham cracker on the bottom and added a few strawberries. Yes...he was moaning!!!
It sounds like we having lots of sex in here but we are actually just eating! lol..LOL..LOL
Better get to Bible and my Daily Devotion...
"Fear not: you will no longer live in shame. Don't be afraid; there is no more disgrace for you. You will no longer remember the shame of your youth." Isaiah 54:4
The devotional story by Sandi Patty tells of the 5 women in the book of Matthew: Rahab, prostitute; Tamar, seduced her father in law; Bathsheba, committed adultery; Ruth a Gentile, considered a pagan & an outsider; Mary, just another pregnant teenager. God made a special place in His heart for these unlikely five!
I love that! God uses broken men & women!
Today there is HOPE for all of us...
If you stop by my house today and hear "moaning," it's just me eating Maple Brown Sugar oatmeal or Vegetable Beef Stew or munching on Ranch flavored soy chips!
Hope your day is so good that you feel like moaning! :)

Hurtful Headache
Anyone who knows me, knows that Tuesday is my jam packed tv night. The headache won last night. It was terrible and I am moving around this morning very tenderly because I can just barely still feel it.
I try not to take pain medication....they are processed through my kidney, which, can sometimes be a dangerous thing. I use relaxation, heat, soaking baths and sleep.
It was the right side of my face that hurt and I think is was a sinus headache...whatever it was...it was hurtful.
So, I am fast forwarding through all the shows this morning. Helen won Biggest Loser...not my choice...I can't get over her sending her beautiful daughter home so she could continue on the show. Cowboy Ty went home from Dancing with Stars...that's good...he is so nice but the others are better dancers. American Idol...I think the judges are setting up Adam to win(Judges choice songs for Danny & Kris were not good songs)...I'm not an Adam fan...he was already a performer when he came on the show...unfair advantage...cheering for underdogs Danny and Kris. Wow...I'm pretty judgmental! Where's my warm heart this morning!!
Son in Law, Matt, called last night to tell me Andrew DROVE around Coshocton with him in the BIG truck. He said he did great....needs practice on keeping in the center of the lane but did a fine job. I thanked him for calling me AFTER the drive was over. I'm not sold on the big pick up truck. I guess it's a guy thing. I do love the inside...it is pretty plush for a pick up truck! I still can't believe my grandson is driving!
Diet went good yesterday. I didn't drink enough water....will do better today. We had baked pork chops for dinner with cucumber & tomato salad and steamed cauliflower. My favorite...orange roughy today. I was supposed to exercise yesterday but headache was too intense....will do better today. I need to get motivated to do it in the mornings....wish I liked exercise. I KNOW it is crucial to good health.
Devotion this morning was good. It's about using our God given gifts...
"As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God." 1Peter 4:10
....Perhaps you are a talented musician, jewelry designer, poet, tender caregiver, teacher, photographer, seamstress, hairdresser, inspired letter writer, or decorator. The list is limitless when it comes to all the ways art can be expressed. Patsy Clairmont (Grand New Day Daily Devotional)
Be kind to each other today....that's a gift we can all use!
Have a wonderful Wednesday!

New Driver!

Watch for this face driving around Coshocton and Muskingum counties! He got his driver's permit today! I have so many memories of Chad and Val as beginning drivers!
Mike emailed from Owens and said...."we are going to pray at the church altar tonight....please God protect him as he takes this next step to growing up."
Love you Andrew! Congratulations!
Tuesday Tired...
Wow...I am tired this morning and for no good reason.
Just put on my tennis shoes and going to start moving and make some coffee. Litter box needs scooped...missed yesterday so double poop to scoop.
Scallops for dinner last night were good...still don't look like Rachael Ray's but I will keep trying.
Worried about Melissa on Dancing with Stars. I liked her dances but those judges really frustrated me with their comments. I know Cowboy Ty should go but he must have a great following to still be there. I love Shaun too and she had a great night with judges. It will be interesting to see results.
Tuesdays are big tv for me....Biggest Loser, American Idol, Real Housewives of NY and Dancing with Stars. Biggest Loser finale tonight. I don't have a favorite out of finalists....just enjoy the show. I have a hard time getting over the mom that sent her daughter home. ..don't want her to win. Shame on her....
Praying my new order of TSFL food comes today! First order should have been for a month but Mike did it with me so it lasted 2 weeks...pickins are slim and only have drinks left. Anytime I heard a truck or car yesterday I ran to door like a child hoping to see a big box on my porch! Drinks are great but 5 times a day are a little much....making me a bit antsy!! I did slip and eat a fudge round last night it was either that or a cat!
I'm better today! New day...new attitude! I haven't read my devotion yet! Just a minute...I will be right back!
It's a good one....
"O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever." Psalm 107:1
A heart of gratitude leads us down many avenues that enhance personal growth and teach us to celebrate life just as it is, without balloons, streamers, confetti and horns blowing.
(Luci Swindoll...A Grand New Day Daily Devotional)
I will celebrate life today without Fudge Rounds!
Have a Terrific Tuesday....

Doctor appointment and lab work in June!
Monday...back on the program!
Yesterday was Mother's Day and we went out to eat....to Subway! The sandwich took me off my diet program with the bread but kept me on program with the caleries...in fact...it was less caleries than some of my meal plans!
I got online before going and found the veggie and turkey breast subs had the lowest caleries.(290) I went with the 6 inch turkey breast sub on 9 grain whole wheat bun with lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion and no condiments. Had unsweetened ice tea and enjoyed it all very much!
I am back on program this morning and Mike is on 1000 calerie diet. Sent oatmeal packet and tomato soup with him today. We found all bran crackers yesterday...18 crackers only 130 caleries. I sent 10 for his soup. I also sent a few 100 calerie snacks, celery sticks and pickle wedges for free snacks...no caleries. He will come home to eat lean and green with me! Scallops tonight!
Spent the morning in church with Dad & Mom. Chad called from North Carolina. He is happy and doing great. Val is happy and doing great! Soooooo....that makes me happy and doing great! It was a perfect Mother's Day!
Today is sis in law, Patsy's, birthday! Haaaappy Birthday to YOU...Haaaappy Birthday to YOU....Haaaappy Birthday Dear Paaaaatsy....Haaaappy Birthday to YOU!!!! She always hits one year ahead of me and lets me know how it is before I get there!!!! Have a great one Sweetie!!! Hope Raleigh is all sunshiny and beautiful for your birthday!!! (Can't believe Nicole & Manuel's 1 year anniversary is coming up...that year went fast!!!) What a fun wedding and reception!!
Have a great Monday!
Today's devotion...
"One who trusts in the Lord is secure." Proverbs 29:25
There is no greater gift we can give God than our trust, and there is nothing more liberating than to do that in prayer. We are invited to bring our lives, our families, our hopes, and our dreams and lay them as a gift before our Father, believing he can be trusted with everything we treasure most. Your Heavenly Father waits with open arms to hold your treasures. There is no safer place in heaven or on earth. (A Grand New Day Daily Devotional)

Diet Day 14!!!
So...today is the 2 week mark. Mike lost 17 and I lost 9. I am going to start moving him into regular food and he wants to lose more so we will be counting caleries...that's the bottom line. I am staying on the program and adding exercise.
We had our lean & green for lunch today. Taco salad....Mike licked his plate so that is a good sign! Old days...filled a dinner size plate and didn't think about amounts! Today...1 1/2 cups of shredded lettuce, half roma tomato cut into 6 small chunks, tablespoon of salsa, 5 ounces of ground turkey with teas of taco seasoning, tablespoon of sour cream and chopped green onion sprinkled on top!(no refried beans, no nacho chips or crushed taco shells, everything measured and preplanned) It was so pretty and so good. After I got it to the table I got the idea of taking a packet of our snack multi grain crackers and breaking them into the salad for a bit of crunch! Yummy!
We are going to a movie tonight...I can have diet pop butI haven't any kind of pop since last Novemeber. So, thinking about just taking a bottle of water in my purse and a meal replacement bar! Wish me luck!!
We have both decided we are sleeping better and have more energy through the day. We are now very satisfied with our measured meals and don't feel a need for 2nd and 3rd helpings. I am going to have food calerie lists available for him at work and for us at home.
Working on laundry today and reading THE SHACK. Mike just left to help at Pool Clean Up Day in Coshocton.
Grandson, Andrew, goes for his driver's permit on Tuesday and starts his first official job at Ace Hardware next Sunday.
Life is good right now....
My morning devotion..."The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me; Your love, O Lord, endures forever." Psalm 138:8
Make yourself available & open to God each day! Sounds good to me!

The Village People
Our Annual church Mother's Day Banquet was last Sunday and this year's theme was Music Legends. Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, The Beatles, June & Johnny Cash, The Supremes, Dolly Parton, Sonny & Cher performed and the big finale was The Village People! My favorite was the Motorcycle Guy!
He still has his classic moves...looked really good in black leather!
Mike grew that face hair for 2 weeks then used my black makeup pencil to darken it. Many people didn't know who he was!!! It had been a BIG, WELL KEPT SECRET!!! He had fun but is glad it's over! I have more pictures when my camera issues are resolved and Val has a blackmail video that she keeps threatening to share with the world....we haven't seen it yet!Macho Men: Mike Bebout (motorcyclist); Matt Weiser(Indian); Bob Hare(construction) Donn Steere(policeman)
Thanks for some of the biggest laughs I have ever heard in a church!!!
Diet Day 13 AND 2 year Cancer Scans
I was so tired yesterday that I didn't even have time to blog. Mother's Day week in daycare and lots of extra little crafts and projects. The boys made beautiful little heart shaped sequined treasure boxes for their mommies and wonderful teapot cards. We did a little bit every day and they were so proud.
I need to go back and tell you the salmon from a couple of days ago was.....DELICIOUS!!! I have 3 recipes but I went with the one with roasted veggies because I had everything I needed with the exception of orange zest. So I roasted tomato wedges, onion wedges and minced fresh garlic(lightly coated in olive oil) in a 400 degree oven. It said for 45 minutes or until the edges started browning...mine were done in 20-25 minutes. Then, I removed the veggies, turned the oven up to 450, placed the salmon on the baking sheet and covered them with some of the roasted veggies and baked for 12 minutes. It was wonderful!! We can't wait to have them again!!!
I had orange roughy yesterday. Mike went to the Mason's dinner and had steak and salad with my dad and brother. Mike is now down 17 pounds!!! I have not weighed in this week but I know my numbers are NOT that big. But......I feel great. I feel lighter. I have not gone off this plan one time...not one time!
So, I left early this morning for my 2 year cancer scans. I have to admit as I drove past that Maple Avenue McDonalds I was thinking about that darn Bacon, Egg & Cheese biscuit(my favorite) that was on the commercial last night...but I also thought about all the caleries in that one breakfast sandwich! I didn't go home that way but I think I would have been ok if I had...good for me!
I came home for a few hours and was permitted to eat again. I had my oatmeal and big glass of water. I will eat another meal replacement before heading back down for a 1pm bone scan.
My technician, Barb, was very sweet and Abbie gave me my shot of something in my vein for my bone scan and she was a sweetie too. I feel very calm.
Mike is golfing with son in law, Matt, this morning. I would NOT let him take me. He sent me several "I love you" text messages. I think these scans and doctor appointments are harder on him than me. Mom called last night to see if I wanted her to take me. I told her I would be fine. Val called and said "Mom! I cannot believe it has been 2 years...it feels like you just had your surgery this year!."
I went back to June 2007 and read the beginning of this blog...only my 2nd time to do that...it always makes me cry...and rejoice!
My devotion this morning said..."I will be your God through all your lifetime, yes, even when your hair is white with age." Isaiah 46:4

Doctor Grandma!
Was preparing an early dinner for me and getting Mike's ready for when he got home last night, when I got a call from Val that Grace was running a fever. My early dinner was so I could attend her school concert last night. A trip to Urgent Care diagnosed a severe ear infection. She was with me over the weekend and had complained that her earrings were making her ear hurt. I didn't even think about INSIDE her ear. We took off her earrings and left them out of her ear on Sunday...it must have been starting then.
Matt had to go out of town today and Val had meetings scheduled so I asked if I could just keep her. I LOVE taking care of sick kids, especially grandchildren! I have the best memories of being sick when I was little and being made to feel so special by my mom! That nurturing was the best medicine ever!!
So...my little Grace is on my couch. The pain is better, thanks to antibiotic, but it is seeping up a storm. Doctor said the "drainage" will relieve the pressure and pain. We like that idea! As much as I hate the kids being sick.....I LOVE how lovey and snuggly they get!!!
We had a good night last night. Everyone was pretty tired and struggled to stay awake during Dancing and Idol! Surprised at Dancing elimination and hated the music on Idol last night...I was never much of a rocker chic and I'm not an Adam fan (didn't even recognize his song). I knew Chris and Danny would struggle with this music. Praying Danny doesn't go home. AND FOUR JUDGES....ACK!!! I always record and watch it later so I can FAST FORWARD through their comments!!!!
Planning to bake salmon tonight for dinner. First time to prepare and eat it. I'm really nervous!! Have back up of steak and chicken breast just in case!!!

First Job
Grandson, Andrew, got his first job! He is also just a few days from his driver's permit. He will be working at Coshocton's Ace Hardware on Sundays starting in June! Sounds like a perfect fit for his schedule and a great mentor for a boss. Another chapter in his book of life and something he will always remember! It nearly made me cry when Valerie told me....I remember this precious little guy with bleached blonde hair who could make the sun shine on a cloudy day and bring a smile to everyone he met...dressed in his little train engineer outfit (LOVED trains) and watching Thomas! Wasn't that just yesterday!?
My little daycare guys have had a great morning. They are finishing up their Mac n Cheese lunch then we are working on our Mother's Day projects some more before settling down for a movie. The breeze was actually a little cool during outside playtime but all their jackets were off within minutes of running around chasing each other.
It's been a calm diet day. Trying to give Friday's cancer scan worries to the Lord. My doctor appointment isn't until June so I will be waiting for results anyway...no sense wasting great spring days when my path is set and all I have to do is show up!
Time for glue and sequins! Don't you just love homemade Mom Day gifts!!!

Diet day 10...early morning
Wow....I was tired last night. It was a busy day and by the time I ate and started watching Dancing with the Stars (Favs are Melissa and Shaun) I was struggling to stay awake. I didn't hear Mike get up this morning so he packed his own food...hope he didn't forget anything...and I slept until 6:08! My first little person arrives at 6:30...that was close! Hate starting my day without a shower but it was a quick face wash and teeth brushed then out to get bed rolls ready!
Yesterday ended well...I didn't drink all my water. I will do better today.
I really wanted to try salmon for the first time today but Grace has a school choir concert this evening and I'm not sure it is something I can make ahead. I need to have Mike's meal ready for him to reheat since I won't be here when he gets home. Downloaded some recipes yesterday. Mike isn't very excited about salmon. He said he had it once and didn't really enjoy it...I'd better have a back up ready on salmon day. He loves those turkey burgers in lettuce wraps! I think he would eat those everyday! Maybe I will make those tonight...that would be an easy warm up.
Val posted video on facebook of the girls dancing at the Rock the Arts Festival at the school last Saturday. Many dancers were missing and tap dances had to be done in jazz shoes on the gym floor but it was fun. They did nearly all of their dances in one hour...which is amazing when you think about costumes changes. Madison lost her hairpiece in one dance....if it had been Grace there would have been #*@ to pay! Scary thought..... I was so THANKFUL that Val stayed to do all the costumes and hair. She left for Cincinnati as soon as they were done!
I got a message yesterday that my cancer scans are scheduled for this Friday and they are all being done at Good Sam. They said I needed to pick up "mediscan"(not sure of spelling) at any registration desk. Can anyone tell me what that is and do I need to get it before I go for my scans? I guess I can call back down and ask.
So....I don't feel at all hungry this morning. I think Mike told me he lost another pound...15 for him. I'm not weighing today.....not in a weighing mood. Getting up an hour late has knocked me out of whack. I need to read devotions and pray and do something with this wild hair!!

Finish Line
Valerie completed her first half marathon in 2 hours 22 minutes. She ran the hills of northern Kentucky (which she says were definitely mountains...not hills) and the streets of Cincinnati. She said the support in Cincinnati was unbelievable....wonderful fans!!! We hated missing this one but were very proud of her completing it!
She got back in time to see the program at the church Mother's Day Banquet. Her dad was a surprise performer. The program was "Legends" in music. We heard from Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Sonny & Cher, The Beatles, Supremes, June & Johnny Cash and the finale was The Village People...Mike was the motorcycle guy! He was fabulous in leather!!! It was so much fun! As soon as I figure out what is going on with my camera, I will have pictures to share!!!
I did great at the banquet. Menu was baked steak and mashed potatoes in gravy, green beans, cole slaw, applesauce, roll and dessert buffet. I cleaned all the gravy off my steak, doubled up my green beans and skipped everything else. I actually went upstairs and got a great seat for the program while the desserts were being enjoyed. Thanks to family and friends who are being so supportive!!!
I was down a pound this morning....that's 7 for me and Mike said he stayed at -14 which I am very suspect about. Seems to me he would have sweat off a pound or two dancing in that leather last night!!! I think he is being sensitive to me and wants to keep me encouraged but I really am happy for him and so proud. And I totally know that he moves way more than me during his days at work! I might get a little moody once in a while but I am happy with both of our results.
Feels like I'm starting the weekend a little behind...could have used one more day off. The granddaughters were here Saturday and Sunday and we spent more time playing than doing weekend chores. It was fun and we were so proud of them at church on Sunday!
Happy Monday....Congrats to Val!

8:05am Marathon update
We just received our first report. She has run 6.8 miles. That will put her in the hills of Northern Kentucky. Her time is 1 hour 11 minutes. Projected finish is 8:53am.
There is a light rain which many of the runners say is perfect conditions.
Woo Hoo....go Val!!!

Ready for the Race
Madison and I got up at 6am. We are snuggled on the couch with the email up and ready to receive tracking information on Valerie. There are over 20,000 runners in that race! She said miles 5-9 are hills. I can tell she is very nervous about those!
I feel better this morning....but, keeping with my mood last night...I had terribly sad scary dreams. I don't even want to share them with you because they were so terrible!!!
I lost 6 pounds my first week on the Take Shape For Life program. Mike isn't up yet. I will be interested to see what his numbers are today. He had so much energy yesterday he was like a kid and he got his first "Mike, have you lost weight" comment.
4 minutes until race time!! We love you Val!

Feeling a little blue
I'm having a really sad night....can't explain it...girls have been great. I really feel a need to cry and I don't know why. I hate when that happens. Mike moved all day...moving our friends, mowed 2 yards and now he is bike riding. I just don't have that kind of energy. He will probably lose 10 pounds today.
Okay...Grace is tired and wants to go to bed. Maybe I just need a good night of sleep and a fresh start tomorrow.
Just needed to tell someone.

Losing momentum...
Had a fabulous morning at Rock the Arts in Coshocton...wonderful exhibits and loved watching the girls dance. Spent some extra time there getting henna tatoos then off to WalMart to get a few groceries and to eat my meal replacements which I had in a lunch bag in the car. I should have brought at least 2 in the festival with me along with a water and energy drink...I had oatmeal at 8:30 then nothing until 1!! Way too long for nothing to eat or drink.
Mike has been helping a friend move and mowing yards. He is burning tons of caleries so I am expecting big numbers from him tomorrow. How many caleries did I burn leaning on a cart up and down 10 or 11 aisles? (lol...not very many) Grace wants to take a walk and I promised I would in 15 minutes. My heart isn't in it....I really feel tired this afternoon. First time since starting the program that I feel tired.
Val called. They made it to Cincinnati. She said it is "CRAZY & CROWDED." Her run starts at 6:30 in the morning...13.1 miles.
Have a wonderful evening. I'm trying to talk the girls into pj's and watching "Marley & Me" and they are NOT excited about watching that movie because "they know the dog dies." Grace is close to changing her mind since I told her it probably isn't true. Actually somebody told me it IS a true story but please don't tell Grace or Madison. I would really like to see it!

Good Luck Valerie!
Valerie is running her first half marathon on Sunday in Cincinnati! The timing of this event is interesting...It's called the Flying Pig Marathon! (Swine Flu..don't you think that is just a little funny?) They have a website for the marathon.
She is going by herself with a running group. We will be tracking her on the computer as she carries a "chip" with her during the race...so high tech! Contact us if you would like her race number and you can track her too!!
We will be cheering her on from our living room!!
GOOD LUCK VAL!!! love you!!!

Bee Gees Concert
I woke up to an extremely loud Bee Gees YouTube concert in my living room this morning. Mike already had one cup of coffee and a bowl of oats & he had weighed in and he was HAPPY!!! I came down the stairs and he said in his happy voice..."Are you going to weigh in?" Hmmmm....I knew he must have had another very good number. I don't know...what was YOUR number? He said..."Ahhh, maybe I shouldn't tell you....I don't want you to be discouraged." JUST TELL ME ALREADY! He's down 2 more pounds....13 pounds!
So I went into the scale...removed anything that weighed more than air..and stepped on. It said -1.5 pounds. I'm okay with that! I have lost a total of 5.5 pounds in 6 days. I'm happy with that and I can see & HEAR how happy HE is with his number!
Heading to Rock the Arts in Coshocton. The granddaughters are dancing at 11 then I am bringing them home for the night and all day tomorrow. I've tried to pre plan all their snacks and meals and I have my lean and green meals planned for both days. Hoping my new order comes soon...I'm out of soup and I really like the soup.
Okay...I'm running late. Spent too much time on facebook this morning. Grace will be waiting by the door. Val said she has been ready since 7am! She should have been here partying with Grandpa Mike and the Bee Gees!!

He's Dancing!
I am so proud of Mike and happy that his weight is coming off fast. He is actually dancing around in a pair of shorts that were previously too tight. I want to do that too....
Just ate our lean & green meal for the first time at lunch. Mike had another turkey burger in a lettuce wrap with cucumbers, mushroom and 3 halved cherry tomatoes. He got full this time! I used leftover chicken breast from earlier in the week and had salad with a cup of shredded lettuce a few cucumber chunks and 3 halved cherry tomatoes. Feeling very satisfied. Planning 3 replacements meals the rest of the day.
The sun is coming out....yeah!
We want to support First Fridays (1st Friday of each month) in downtown Coshocton this evening. Granddaughters are dancing. It's fun! Everyone invited to attend...nice evening in a beautiful area with great friends and family!

I will not be discouraged...I will not be discouraged..I will not...
We just couldn't wait...had to do it....got on the scale....Mike now down 11 pounds!!! I am still at 4.
Okay..trying to rationalize this...so...He is getting lots of walking & lifting exercise at work....he is still put together as God intended...I'm without 1 1/4 kidneys, no gall bladder, no appendix, no female parts and a somewhat rewired bladder system. Yes...I'm sure that has something to do with it!!! Right?
He was so sweet. I think he actually felt bad...(at least in front of me). He kept saying..."don't get discouraged...don't be sad...don't give up".
I'm o.....kay. I'm fixing his food so I know we are doing the exact same things.
Ready to buy my exercise bike today.

Diet Day 6.....Ouch!
I was sleeping soundly after having incredibly WILD dreams all night when I got a leg cramp in my left calf. Jimminy Crickets...that hurt!
Okay...one of my dreams: I was on vacation...looking really HOT, may I add...when these 2 really handsome AIR FORCE guys told me they were flying their stealth- like plane to New York. I asked if I could ride along and they said yes. (They had to go to the Chase Building...is there such a thing in New York?) There was a hand bar on the outside of the cockpit (where I could still see the cute Air Force guys) and I actually flew on the OUTSIDE of that plane while holding onto the handlebar and dangling. I was like a super hero...so strong(and HOT)...not affected at all by the force or the wind. The sights were absolutely beautiful. And that plane did not have to taxi to stop...it just stopped and I would drop down from my little handlebar (still looking really HOT). That was a fun dream...don't have a clue why I had it but am thankful.
There were more but thats the one I remember!
Wow....what a night! We had turkey burgers for dinner (turkey patties with mushrooms wrapped in a lettuce leaf(instead of bun) with a side of cucumbers and cherry tomatoes) Mike ate his and said "I really want another one." Flattering, but that's what got us here!
I did have an old habit moment yesterday....my daycare children were all picked up by 4:30 at which time, in the old days (last week) I would have snacked on something unhealthy while watching my recorded shows. I had that urge yesterday. Thankfully I was due for a meal replacement so I ate a chocolate crunch bar instead! Yeah for me!
Pouring rain here this morning. Mike is home today and he's hungry. Heading out to fix oats!
Feeling a bit tired after my big flight to New York last night....my arms are just a bit sore! :)
